Hi all, I'm new to these forums but this place looks pretty much like what I was looking for. I'm a professional game programmer, I work for one of Europe's top game development studios. Specifically I work in the advanced technology group, researching and developing cutting edge game technology for all the leading platforms including PS3, PSP, X360, Wii and PC. I specialise in graphics and network multiplayer, though I also have the ability to develop physics, AI and audio technology.
So why am I here? I work daily with some of the most talented game artists in the world (not to mention programmers, producers, designers, etc..), so in an ideal world I would just ask one of my colleagues to sort me out. In fact, that sounds like a pretty good idea right now, but just on the off-chance that they might be tired of creating kickass art all day and prefer to have a life in their spare time I've come here seeking help from someone who is looking to make some fun thingies in their spare time just because it's fun.
And what is the project proposal? I want to make a top-down shooter in the style of smash tv from the 16-bit era, but with zombies, gore, kickass blood special effects, and a healthy dose of humour. I'll be figuring out more of the design as and when I get to know my artist a little bit more and we can figure out a style and design that will work together, I've been developing some stuff and this game genre will fit the tech quite nicely. I'm quite a keen game designer with knowledge of thousands of different games. I work with some of the best in the business, so I know what makes a good design, but then I didn't want to go and design a whole game without knowing the ability of my artist - I want the scope of the project to be ambitious in terms of tech, but keep it realistic.
Ok a little bit about the tech .. I've been researching current web technology and have turned my attention to Flash. I stumbled upon Adobe Flex Builder 3 and soon after discovered Papervision 3D - a 3d game engine for Flash. Papervision 3D 2 is in advanced stages of development so to amuse myself I've put together a framework for a game that features some pretty impressive graphics for a Flash program, and a very stable and full featured physics library. Papervision can load models in several formats but for convenience, modellers with the ability to create Quake II models (.MD2) would be ideal, but I can always help you figure out a work flow if you're good but have never worked with Quake 2 era technology before.
A little more about the requirements then .. You must be able to create and texture low-poly (~2k poly) models. You should also know how to rig a model and animate it, and be relatively self-motivated. Knowledge of creating Quake 2 models is an advantage but if you're good then we can figure out a workflow that works well for you.
I'm a pretty open and honest person who enjoys creating things of perfection and I wont waste your time, I hope to hear from someone else who shares the same sentiments.
